Nazhir Bergen Puts On Strong Contact Performance As Madisonville Miners Take The Win Over Hoptown Hoppers

Nazhir Bergen collected three hits in four at bats, as Madisonville Miners defeated Hoptown Hoppers 17-7 on Thursday. Bergen hit a home run to left field in the first inning, doubled in the fourth inning, and singled in the second inning.

Madisonville Miners rallied for the victory despite trailing 4-0 in the first.

Hoptown Hoppers got on the board in the top of the first inning after Ruben Ogando singled, scoring three runs, and an error scored one run.

Madisonville Miners tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a single by Brayden Taylor, a home run to left field by Bergen, and a single by Oliver Clark.

Hoptown Hoppers took the lead in the top of the second. Caden Buxton homered to center field, scoring three runs, to give Hoptown Hoppers the upper hand, 7-4.

Madisonville Miners flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring 11 runs on seven hits to take a 17-7 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Bergen that drove in three.

Schon Pespisa earned the win for Madisonville Miners. They surrendered four hits and zero runs over four and one-third innings, striking out one and walking one. John McGee took the loss for Hoptown Hoppers. The reliever went two-thirds of an inning, surrendering six runs on five hits, striking out one and walking one. Landon Cline stepped on the mound first for Madisonville Miners. The righty gave up three hits and seven runs (six earned) over one and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking four. Brayden Eftink stepped on the mound first for Hoptown Hoppers. The righty surrendered eight hits and nine runs (eight earned) over three innings, striking out six and walking four. Ethan Barrett tossed one inning of scoreless ball for Madisonville Miners in relief. They allowed one hit, striking out three and walking two.

Madisonville Miners piled up 15 hits in the game. Bergen and Payton Stephenson were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for Madisonville Miners. Stephenson provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Madisonville Miners with five runs batted in. They went 3-for-3 on the day. Jace Parnin, Clark, and Brandon Gibson each collected multiple hits for Madisonville Miners. Preston Bedford led Madisonville Miners with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing eight walks for the game. Clark stole two bases.

Buxton drove the middle of the lineup, leading Hoptown Hoppers with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. Dom Davis, Grant Snider, and Ogando each collected two hits for Hoptown Hoppers. Sam Perkins led Hoptown Hoppers with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing seven walks for the game. Jackson Vize stole two bases. Hoptown Hoppers ran wild on the base paths, piling up four stolen bases for the game. Hoptown Hoppers turned one double play in the game.
