Madisonville Miners Holds Off Owensboro RiverDawgs For Victory

Madisonville Miners got out to a five-run lead in the second inning and held on for an 8-6 victory over Owensboro RiverDawgs on Friday. Owensboro RiverDawgs scored five runs in the failed comeback on a sacrifice fly by Bailey Falkenstein in the third, a double by Cole Gober in the fourth, a double by Trevor Davis in the fifth, and a error in the eighth.

Madisonville Miners was boosted by Calyn Halvorson who went 4-for-4 at the plate. Halvorson homered in the first, doubled in the second, homered in the fifth, and singled in the seventh.

After Owensboro RiverDawgs scored one run in the top of the eighth, Madisonville Miners answered with one of their own. Owensboro RiverDawgs scored when an error scored one run for Owensboro RiverDawgs.

Madisonville Miners pulled away for good with five runs in the second inning. In the second Griffin Adkins singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Brennen Hunt singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs, and Halvorson doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Freddie Reams got the win for Madisonville Miners. The righty went five innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and striking out four. Todd Bangston and Tyler Yotkewich entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Yotkewich recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Madisonville Miners.

Preston Cottrell took the loss for Owensboro RiverDawgs. The righthander lasted four and a third innings, allowing seven hits and seven runs while striking out three and walking zero.

Madisonville Miners smacked two home run on the day. Halvorson went yard in the first and fifth innings.

Madisonville Miners totaled 11 hits in the game. Halvorson and Adkins all managed multiple hits for Madisonville Miners. Halvorson went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Madisonville Miners in hits.

Owensboro RiverDawgs racked up eight hits on the day. Steven Diaz and Hayden Hirschvogel all collected multiple hits for Owensboro RiverDawgs.
