The Madisonville Miners defeat the Dubois County Bombers, 9-3

In 7 innings. (From Dubois County) The Dubois County Bombers and the Madisonville Miners split a double-header to close out the 2016 regular season. The Miners clinched second place in the final regular season standings, and nailing down the #2 seed for the playoffs.

GAME 1: The Miners secured their playoff position with a late-inning onslaught in game 1, riding a 10-hit attack and a collection of Bomber miscues.

Madisonville took an early lead in the second inning, scoring without benefit of a base hit as Nolan Ramsey walked, moved to second on a wild pitch, advanced on a groundout, and came home on another wild pitch.

The Bombers tied it up in their half of the frame. Macy Holdsworth led off with a walk. Singles by Conner Echols and Mark Giesler advanced him to third. Zach Barnhart drove him in with a sacrifice fly to knot the score at 1-all.

Tom Prospero crossed the plate on a Colin Dupree sacrifice fly to put the visitors back in front, 2-1 in the fourth inning.

The Miners then sealed the game and the playoff seeding by taking advantage of a series of Bomber errors to score seven unearned runs in the final two innings. Catcher Joe McGuinness had an RBI single in each rally.

Dubois County chipped two runs off of the 9-1 lead in the seventh and final inning when Trey Fulton singled Ben Balgaard and Barnhart home. But that was as much as the Bombers could muster, before succumbing 9-3.

Starter Jose Fernandez earned the win to improve his season record to 2-1. Matt Munden is charged with the Bomber loss to square his ledger at 3-3.
