The Hoptown Hoppers defeat the Owensboro Oilers, 7-6
In 7 innings. After sweeping a doubleheader over the Oilers (20-16) in Owensboro, the Hoptown Hoppers (32-6) clinch the regular season title and the # 1 spot for the 2016 OVL Post Season Playoffs. The current second place Madisonville Miners (24-11) have seven games left to play but will be unable to catch the Hoppers this year.
In game one, the Oilers were first to score and took a 4-0 lead after the first inning. The Hoppers chipped away at the lead scoring single runs in the second, third and fourth innings with the Oilers only getting one run in the fourth. Top of the fifth inning the Hoppers pushed ahead scoring 3 runs for a 6-5 lead only to see the Oilers tying the game up by scoring another run in the bottom half of the inning. Hoptown broke the tie in the ninth off an unearned run when the leadoff batter was hit by a pitch, reached third base on an error and then scored on a wild pitch.
