The Hoptown Hoppers defeat the Paducah Chiefs, 10-1

(From Hopkinsville) The league leading Hoptown Hoppers (27-5) extended their win streak to 5 with a 10-1 defeat of the visiting Paducah Chiefs (11-23). Brad Galisatus earned his third win of the season for the Hoppers, improving his record to 3-0. Galisatus pitched 8 innings, giving up only one run on 5 hits. Chandler (2-3) got the loss for the Chiefs, pitching 6 innings, giving up 8 runs on 10 hits. Jacob Stevens pitched the 9th inning for the Hoppers, striking out 2 and giving up 0 runs.

The Hoppers struck early in the bottom of the 2nd inning with Grant Robbins reaching first with a lead off walk. Chase Schmittou and Hunter Holland would follow, each with singles loading the bases. New arrival to the Hoppers, Chris Smutny had a base hit driving in Robbins. Schmittou would then score on a double play ground ball hit by DJ Lewis.

The Hoppers added two more runs in the 3rd inning after Chandler loaded the bases with two straight walks and Robbins being hit by a pitch. Schmittou then blasted a ball off the left field wall scoring Matt Crowder and Andrew Gross.

Paducah got on the board in the top of the 5th with a one out ground rule double by Jason Priest. With two outs, Ryan Garner drove in Priest with an infield single to the shortstop. Hoptown didn't waste any time responding in the bottom half of the 5th with a lead off base hit by Crowder, followed by a 2-run bomb by Andrew Gross, his league leading 15th home run of the season.

The Hoppers continued their offensive machine in the bottom of the 6th inning. With two outs, Allonte Wingate was hit by a pitch. Crowder advanced him to 3rd base on a deep double to left center. A single by Gross would then drive in two more runs, bringing his RBI total on the season to 60.

The bottom of the 7th inning saw two more runs for the Hoppers. Schmittou lead off the inning with a walk. With no outs, Hunter Holland launched a ball over the left field fence, driving in Schmittou. That was Holland's fourth home run of the season.

The Hoppers travel to Muhlenberg County to face the Stallions (4-28) for a double header while the Paducah Chiefs have the day off.
