The Hoptown Hoppers defeat the Fulton Railroaders, 14-2

(From Hopkinsville) The Hoptown Hoppers (23-5) rebounded from their first shut out of the season to defeat the visiting Fulton Railroaders 14-2. The Railroaders now have a record of 9-19. An explosive first inning by the Hoppers put 9 runs on the board off of 8 hits that included home runs by Matt Crowder and Matt Dudas, doubles by Grant Robbins, Chase Schmittou and Malik Stephens and 3 singles. Tyler Magley (1-3) was tagged with the loss for the Railroaders while Seth Oliver (3-0) earned his third win of the season pitching 5 innings and giving up only 1 run on 1 hit.

Fulton got on the board in the top of the 3rd inning with a solo home run by Alex Smith, his first of the season. Unfortunately for the Railroaders, The Hoppers responded with 4 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning highlighted by a 2 run home run by Andrew Gross who leads the league with 13 home runs. Crowder and Stephens also had RBI singles in the inning.

Hoptown added another run in the bottom of the 4th inning after Dudas reached 1st on a fielder's choice and was advanced to 3rd on a double by Cooper Weatherly. Dudas scored on a ground out RBI by Wingate.

The Railroaders showed some life in the top of the 8th inning with a lead off double by Mason Elliot followed by a single by Alex Smith. Elliot was driven in by a ground out by Alex Phillips scoring the only run for the Railroaders in the 8th inning.

The Hopper's bullpen pitched effective relief with appearances by Zach Denney, DJ Lewis, Brad Gallisatus and Gavin Alvarez each pitching one inning and only giving up the one run in the 8th inning. There was even a surprise plate appearance by Chase Maddux who hit a hard line drive to right center that was caught by Andrew Swanson in center field.

The Hoppers host the Paducah Chiefs Sunday night while the Railroaders travel back home to face the Muhlenberg County Stallions.
