The Dubois County Bombers defeat the Muhlenberg County Stallions, 12-2
(From Dubois County) The worst of the storms that rolled through the rest of the Ohio Valley League missed Dubois County last night, but the Bomber offense provided some lightning and thunder of its own, scoring 12 runs on as many hits in downing the Muhlenberg County Stallions 12-2.
The Bombers' cause was aided early in the contest by some wildness on the part of Stallions starting pitcher Preston Traywick. Traywick faced five batters in the first inning without recording any outs, nor allowing any hits. He walked three and hit the other two. All five eventually came around to score, as did Connor Moroder who followed them with an RBI single.
Dubois County sent eleven batters to the plate in the inning, seven of them having an opportunity to step into the batter's box with the bases loaded. The big blow was a 2-run double by Macy Holdsworth to give the home team a 6-0 early lead.
The Bombers rallied again in the third inning on another mix of walks and timely base hits. When Trey Fulton singled with the bases loaded, the lead swelled to 9-0.
Muhlenberg County scored single runs in the 4th and 6th innings, both by leadoff hitter Justin Ware, who collected three hits.
The Bombers added another trio of runs in the seventh inning. Connor Moroder drove two of them in with a bases-loaded single.
Aided by ten walks and two hit batters, Dubois County had 11 bases loaded opportunities on this night. RBIs were produced on 8 of the 11 occasions as the Bombers repeatedly made the most of their opportunities.
Caleb Wagner worked the first five innings for Dubois County, holding the Stallions to one run on three hits. He turned it over to a bullpen that limited the visitors to a single run on four hits over the final four frames. More importantly, the Bombers staff did not walk a single batter all night while striking out eight, highlighted by Raunel Perez fanning the side in the ninth inning.
Jarrett Harness added two hits to Ware's output to lead the Stallions offense.
Moroder had three singles and Trey Fulton added a pair for the Bombers.
With the win, Wagner improves his record to 3-1. Traywick falls to 0-1.
The Stallions return home tonight to face the Owensboro Oilers.
The Bombers are now 17-11, one game out of second place in the OVL standings. They will be home again tonight as they host the Paducah Chiefs, a Bombers/Dragons/Peaches reunion, and Bucket Ruckus. First pitch is at 7 PM.
