The Owensboro Oilers defeat the Paducah Chiefs, 9-0
(From Owensboro) The Owensboro Oilers made their Saturday night home game special by shutting out the visiting Paducah Chiefs 9 to 0.
Owensboro scored two runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. Sam Medina walked to lead off the game and one out later Joe Silva hit a 2-RBI home run. The Oilers made it 4 to 0 in the bottom of the 4th inning. This time Mitch Wilson walked ahead of Hector Marmal hitting a 2 RBI home run of his own. The home lead doubled when Owensboro scored four more runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. After two lead off walks were erased in turn at second base, Brahm Wittinghill was on via a fielder's choice. He stole second base and scored as Silva RBI singled. Nick Lugo walked next and Mitch Wilson plated both Silva and Lugo with a 2-RBI triple. Wilson scored as the throw against him to third base eluded the defense. At the end of five complete innings the Oilers led 8 to 0. Owensboro scored one run in the bottom of the 7th inning. With one away, Whittinghill walked. Silva singled, sending the lead runner to third base. Whittinghill scored on a RBI single by Lugo.
Owensboro starter Adam Schmitt was the winning pitcher, throwing six innings of 2-hit baseball, and working around four walks by striking out five. Reliever Matt Walczak earned a three inning save, also limiting the Chiefs to two hits, and working out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the 8th inning to leave them loaded.
Paducah starter Reid Pope took the loss.
