The Muhlenberg County Stallions defeat the Madisonville Miners, 4-1
(From Madisonville) The Miners and the Stallions hooked up at Elmer Kelley Stadium on Wednesday night, with the Stallions holding on for 4-1 victory.
The Stallions broke a scoreless jam with one run in the top of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead over the Miners, who answered with a single run of their own in the bottom of the inning.
Muhlenberg County scored two runs in the top of the fourth retake the lead 3-1, and added another run in the top of the eighth for the final 4-1 margin.
Broderick Moore earned the win for the Stallions over starter Andrew Wright, who pitched four complete innings while allowing one unearned run on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Moore came on in the bottom of the fifth inning and pitched three scoreless innings, allowing three hits and collecting two strikeouts. Max Hall picked up the save by holding the Miners scoreless for the final two innings on four hits, one walk, and four strikeouts.
Jose Fernandez got the start and the loss for the Miners. Fernandez pitched 4.67 innings, allowing three runs (only one earned) on three hits, five walks, and seven strikeouts. Dylan Ladd followed with 2.33 scoreless innings, giving up one hit, three walks, and striking out one Stallion. Mike Ringer pitched the final two innings for the Miners, allowing one hit, one earned run, and walking one.
At the plate, Jamie Valvano and Daniel Schweikhart each went 1-for-3 with an RBI to lead Muhlenberg County. Will Broady scored two runs, with Tre DeVoe and Manny Lopez scoring one each.
Logan Jarvis went 2-for5 with an RBI for the Miners, with Tom Prospero and Adam Cox going 2-for-4. Wesley Birchmeier (1-for-3) scored the only Miner run of the ballgame.
