The Hoptown Hoppers defeat the Owensboro Oilers, 17-6

(From Hopkinsville) The Hoptown Hoppers (19-2) bounced back from their loss to the Paducah Chiefs Friday night with a convincing 17-6 victory over the second place visiting Owensboro Oilers (12-8). Seth Oliver (2-0) pitched 6 complete innings giving up only one run earning the win for the Hoppers. Austin Tibbs (0-1) got the loss for the Oilers.

The Hoppers took an early lead with a five run bottom of the first inning highlighted by a three run home run by Andrew Gross, his ninth of the season. His nine home runs ties the OVL record and his RBI total of 39 breaks the OVL record. Grant Robbins drove in two more runs in the first inning. Robbins would finish the night going 3-6 with seven RBI's.

The Hoppers would add runs in the next four innings extending their lead to 14-1. Owensboro scored a run in the top of the fourth inning with a solo home run by Seth Woodard. Woodard hit a second solo home run in the top of the eighth inning.

The Oilers added two more runs in the top of the 7th inning and one in the 8th inning, but The Hoppers responded with three more runs in the bottom of the 8th extending their lead to 17-4.

The Oilers rallied late adding two more runs in the top of the 9th inning, but it wasn't enough.

The Hoppers travel to Dubois County on Sunday to face the 4th place Bombers (10-9).
