The Muhlenberg County Stallions defeat the Owensboro Oilers, 5-3
(From Owensboro) The Owensboro Oilers lost Monday night's home game to the visiting Muhlenberg Co. Stallions. The Oilers scored first and led through four complete innings, but the Stallions took over the game with two multi-run middle innings to win by the final score of 5 to 3.
Owensboro scored all three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Tanner Kehrer, (single), Nick Lugo (single), and Bailey Montgomery (walk) each scored in the inning as Seth Woodard collected a RBI sacrifice fly tor Kehrer's run and Ben Haefner drove in Lugo and Montgomery with a 2-RBI single. After one complete inning the Oilers led 3 to 0.
The Stallions scored three runs to tie the game in the top of the 5th inning. Jamie Valvano (reached on an error), Tyler Neeley (reached on a fielder's choice compounded by an error), and Mark Treadway (single) all scored. Treadway collected the RBI for Valvano, an RBI ground out by JD Roberts plated Neeley, and Treadway scored on a passed ball. Muhlenberg Co. scored two more runs in the top of the 6th inning. Justin Ware (single) and Valvano (single) scored. Neeley drove in Ware with an RBI single, and Valvano crossed the plate on the throw to hold Neeley to a single. The Stallions had taken a 5 to 3 lead after their sixth at-bat, then held the Oilers in check the rest of the way to make that score final.
The win belonged to Muhlenberg Co. reliever Broderick Moore who replaced the starter in the bottom of the 4th inning and shutout the Oilers for 5 innings, scattering four hits and working around three walks to do it. Stallions pitcher Aaron Glichstein recorded a save for a perfect bottom of the 9th inning.
Owensboro starter Mac Barnes took the loss.
