The Dubois County Bombers defeat the Fulton Railroaders, 7-0
(From Dubois County) One of the hallmarks of the Dubois County Bombers through the first 13 games of the 2016 OVL season has been outstanding starting pitching. Last night, Oakland City University's Caleb Wagner raised the bar even higher for his rotation brethren by tossing a complete game shutout, leading the Bombers to a 7-0 victory over the Fulton Railroaders in front of 1347 Dubois County fans.
Wagner scattered seven hits and didn't walk a batter. No Railroaders even reached third base until the ninth inning when a pair of singles and a hit batter loaded the bags for Fulton with one out. Wagner then closed out the game with a strikeout and a ground ball to preserve the shutout.
Buddy Johnson ignited the attack for coach Andy Lasher's squad once again. He rapped a pair of singles and a double, coming around to score each time. Macy Holdsworth rocketed a 7th-inning 2-run homer that landed on the platform of the old-fashioned scoreboard in left field. Zack Gray added a pair of hits, scored twice, had two RBIs and a double.
Wagner improves to 2-0. He has yet to allow an earned run this summer through 21 innings on the mound. Cameron Curry started on the mound for Fulton. He takes the loss in his first decision of the season.
Dubois County is now 10-3 for the season. They remain in second place in the OVL, 2.5 games behind Hopkinsville. The Bombers will travel to Hopkinsville today to play a double-header against the Hoppers.
Fulton falls to 4-10. They will also play a twinbill today, hosting the Owensboro Oilers.
The Bombers next home game is Thursday night when the Owensboro Oilers come to historic League Stadium.
