The Owensboro Oilers defeat the Hoptown Hoppers, 4-2

(From Owensboro) The Owensboro Oilers won the Sunday night home game playing the Hopkinsville Hoppers. The final score was Hopkinsville 2 to Owensboro 4.

The Oilers scored first in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Nick Lugo reached on a dropped third strike that went to the backstop. Lugo moved to second base on a passed ball, and on to third base via a shallow single to left field. Lugo crossed the plate as the Hoppers middle infield traded the early run for a double play. After two complete innings Owensboro led 1 to 0.

Entering the bottom of the 5th inning the score was still 1-0 Oilers. Starters Brandon Wilson for Owensboro and Chase Maddux for Hopkinsville were letting their defenses make plays behind them in a fineness pitchers' duel. In the home 5th inning the Oilers put another run across. Byce Windham opened with a double. A walk and two pop outs later, Windham came in on a RBI single by Lugo before Lugo was tagged out trying to stretch his knock to a double as well. Owensboro made it 3-0 with a run in the bottom of the 6th inning as Seth Woodard powered a solo RBI home run over the wall at in center-left field. The Oiler lead grew to 4-0 with a run in the bottom of the 7th inning. With one out, Tanner Kerher walked. Julian Alverio was hit by a pitch, and Lugo walked to load the bases. Woodard returned to the plate and drove Kerher in with an RBI sacrifice fly. After 7 complete innings, the Owensboro Oilers led 4-0.

The Hoppers rallied for their two runs in the top of the 8th inning. With one out, Hunter Holland, Grant Robbins and Gavin Alverez all walked consecutively to load the bases. An RBI single by Kyle O'Keefe plated Holland and kept the bases loaded. Andrew Gross followed with an RBI walk to push Robbins in. A shallow fly out and a bases loaded strikeout ended the Hopper scoring with the score 4-2 for the home team. Hopkinsville went on to put two on with two out in the top of the 9th inning, but a routine grounder ended the game with the 4-2 final score.

The winning pitcher was Brandon Wilson, Ryan Hundley earned the save. The losing pitcher was Chase Maddux.
