The Owensboro Oilers defeated the Fulton Railroaders, 6-4

(From Fulton) The Oilers pull out a 6-4 victory in their final regular season game over the Railroaders in Fulton. A two RBI homerun by former Railroader Riley Benner was the deciding factor for Owensboro. 

     The Railroaders took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Both teams remained scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when the Oilers tied the game scoring one.

     In the fifth inning the Oilers scored two more runs to take a 3-1 lead. The Railroaders answered with two of their own to re-tie the game 3-3.

     The sixth inning saw both teams scored one each for a 4-4 tie. The top of the seventh inning saw Benner's homerun to give the Oilers back lead at 6-4 which ended the scoring for both.

     After one Railroader out in the bottom of the seventh, rain and lightning halted play for 1 1/2 hours. Play resume and both teams complete the full nine innings,

     The win on the mound for Owensboro goes to Ben Rhodes in relief for 4 2/3 innings giving up only 2 hits, one earned run, 3 walks and 2 strikeouts.

     Taking the loss for Fulton was Lee Haeberle with 2 innings on the mound allowing 5 hits, 3 earned runs, one walk and no strikeouts.

     The loss by Fulton hands the first place Dubois County Bombers (26-13) the season title and first seed for the Post Season Playoffs.  The Railroaders (24-15) are now tied in the standings with the Miners (24-25) who won their game against the Hoppers on the same night. 

     With one game left for both the Railroaders and Miners, the Railroaders must win tomorrow night against the Hoppers and hope Miners loss to the Bombers tomorrow if Fulton is get the second seed.  If the Railroaders and Miners complete the season with identical records, the Miners will take the second seed having beat Fulton 6-4 in their head-to-head season series.
