The Madisonville Miners defeated the Owensboro Oilers, 3-1
(From Owensboro) The Owensboro Oilers continued competitive home play Saturday evening with the Miners visiting from Madisonville. The Miners won by the final score of 3 to 1.
Madisonville scored first with one run in the top of the 1st inning. That run came as a home run off the bat of Wesley Birchmeier. The Miners extended their lead with two runs in the top of the 3rd inning. EJ Watson led off for the Miners, and he, though eventually advancing to second base on a wild pitch was thrown out trying to take third base too. Connor Moss and Birchmeier singled back-to-back. Both runners scored on a 2-RBI double from Shane Connahan. Madisonville led 3 to 0 after 2 and a half innings of play.
The Oilers scored their run in the bottom of the 6th inning. Conner McHugh led off the home half with a single. Ben Rhodes followed with a single, and an errant throw allowed McHugh to go to third base. Josh Wetzel hustled a grounder into a RBI fielder's choice that scored McHugh in exchange for putting Rhodes out at second base. At the close of six innings the score was Miners 3 to Oilers 1. Neither team scored again, leaving the final in the visitor's favor.
Madisonville starter Drew Mullinax allowed the one unearned run in six innings of work for the win. Reliever Yancey Pritchett bridged to Colton Nussel who closed the bottom of the 9th for a save.
Owensboro starter Drew Lyles, with relief help from John Hakemoller and Chase Randolph, kept things in range all game long, but Lyles takes the loss.
