The Hoptown Hoppers defeated the Owensboro Oilers, 7-4
(From Owensboro) The Owensboro Oilers and the Hopkinsville Hoppers split inverse 7-inning games of a doubleheader in Owensboro Monday evening. The Hoppers won the opener by a final score of 7 to 4. The Oilers won the nightcap by the final score of 7 to 2.
In game one, the Hoppers scored two runs in the top of the 1st inning: Ernie de la Trinadad was hit by a pitch and John Davis doubled; both got batted in by Matt Cogen with a 2-RBI single.
Owensboro answered with one run in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Ty Broady walked and scored from second with two outs as Mark VanDenlandenberg reached on an error.
Hopkinsville added one run in the top of the 3rd inning. Davis singled and scored again, brought around by Mitch Gallagher on a RBI single.
The Oilers closed in with one run in the bottom of the same inning. Austin Bartle walked and was plated from third by a Riley Benner RBI sacrifice fly. Owensboro tied the game 3 to 3 with a run in the bottom of the 4th inning. VanDenlangenberg reached on an error and stole second base, then scored off the bat of Tyler Tichenor who RBI tripled.
The Hoppers pulled away with Game 1 from that point. Hopkinsville scored one run in the 5th inning. Matt Crowder singled and advanced to third base on an error. He came in by way of a Will Olson RBI sacrifice fly. Hopkinsville added two runs in the top of the 6th inning. Zac Sanders singled and scored on a RBI single by De la Trinidad, who in turn scored on a RBI single by Crowder. The Hoppers added one more run in the top of the 7th inning. Mitch Gallagher doubled and eventually scored from third base on a two-out RBI single by Sanders.
The Oilers got one run in the bottom of the 7th inning as Benner and Broady doubled back-to-back, with Broady collecting the RBI for Benner scoring.
The Game 1 win goes to Hopkinsville reliever Dylan Givens, the loss to Owensboro reliever Tyler Solomon.
