The Owensboro Oilers defeated the Dubois County Bombers, 6-3
(From Dubois County) The Owensboro Oilers traveled to Dubois County last night, closing out both the long holiday weekend and the Bombers six-game winning streak with a 6-3 triumph at Huntingburg's League Stadium
Owensboro scored twice in the second inning, bunching a walk, a hit batter, a sacrifice b6-2unt, a sacrifice fly and a single. Ben Rhoades (sac fly) and Tyler Tichenor (single) got the RBIs.
The Oilers added another run in the third inning. Ty Broady walked, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored on a Braxton Morris sacrifice fly, giving Owensboro a 3-0 advantage.
Dubois County scored a pair in the fourth inning to close to within 3-2. After walking to lead off the frame, Mark Giesler scored on an Alex Ralph double. A hit by Thomas Rea brought Ralph in two batters later.
The Oilers opened the lead to 6-2 in the sixth. A pair of Dubois County errors and a triple by Ben Rhoades keyed the rally.
Dubois County created one scoring opportunity after another, but was unable to collect the clutch hits when necessary. Facing a series of six different Oilers hurlers, the Bombers left 11 men on base, four on third base.
Dubois County was never set down in order until the ninth inning. Time after time, the Oilers escaped Bomber rallies.
Dubois County mounted one final scoring opportunity in the eighth inning. A pair of walks and a Daniel Johnson single loaded the bases with two out. Jacob Snodgrass lined a single into the outfield that brought one run in, but Nick Barrientos was caught in a rundown between 2nd and 3rd , leaving Owensboro up by the final margin of 6-3.
Ben Rhoades had a triple, a single, and three RBIs in leading the Oiler offense. Drew Bene added a pair of hits.
Daniel Johnson stroked three singles for the Bombers. Jacob Snodgrass added a pair of hits.
The league-leading Bombers fall to 20-9. Owensboro improves to 8-17, regaining sole possession of fourth place in the OVL standings.
Dubois County travels to Fulton to take on the 2nd-place Railroaders tonight. Owensboro will be hosting Hopkinsville for a twinbill.
