The Madisonville Miners defeated the Owensboro Oilers, 9-3
(From Owensboro) A Sunday night home game for the Owensboro Oilers hosting the Madisonville Miners followed a rain out and off date. The Oilers lost the game to the Miners by the final score of 9 to 3.
Madisonville scored first and took control of the contest by scoring seven runs in the top of the 3rd inning. In that half inning EJ Watson doubled, then moved to third base on a defensive error. Gabe Franklin walked. Connor Moss reached safely on a fielder's choice as Watson returned safely to third base with no out recorded. A RBI single from Matt Walsh scored Watson. Nolan Ramsey followed with a 2 RBI double to drive in Franklin and Moss. One out later, Shane Connahan hit a 2- RBI single to plate Walsh and Ramsey. Cory Finkler RBI doubled to bring Ramsey around. Finally, Finkler himself advanced and scored on separate wild pitches.
Owensboro got on the board with one run in the bottom of 4th inning. Like other home scoring oppotunities of the evening, it was a process of attrition after being so set back. Ty Broady walked, Braxton Morris followed with a hit and Jake Wilson walked as well. With the bases loaded, the Miners easily traded Broady scoring for Riley Benner's ground out and the double play turned from it. The inning ended with no further rallying.
The Miners added two runs in the top of the 6th inning. Tyler Greiner singled and Watson followed behind him with the same. Franklin reached on a fielder's choice used to put Greiner out at third base. Moss singled to successfully load the bases. Walsh collected an RBI for Watson's run the hard way, hit by a pitch. A second out later, Andrew Tanous singled to plate Moss.
The Oilers scored one run in the bottom of the 7th inning. Benner led off by reaching and moving to second base on the same error. He moved to third base on a wild pitch. Benner scored on a RBI ground out by Alex Jones.. With Owensboro dialing up bianary code on the scoreboard, the need was at least seven run in the bottom of the 9th inning. The Oilers got only one of those runs. Benner led off with a single. He advanced to second base on a defensive error and to third base on a wild pitch. Pinch-hitter Drew Bene hit into an RBI ground out that got Benner across. Two quick outs followed, ending the home comeback very short.
Madisonville starter Colton Nussel had 8 innings of 4 hit, 2 run ball pitched. He wins. Owensboro starter Tyler Solomon takes the loss for a much more difficult 2.67 innings.
