The Owensboro Oilers defeated the Hoptown Hoppers, 9-8

(From Hopkinsville)  What began as an apparent Owensboro rout became much more of a game, as homestanding Hoptown overcame a 5-0 deficit to take a late 8-5 lead, but the Oilers made the last statement, scoring four runs in the eighth inning to gain the 9-8 win Saturday.
With storm clouds looming overhead, the Oilers (2-0) stormed through the first inning, scoring three runs when Alfredo Bohorques hit a one-out single and stole second. Ty Broady walked and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Man VanDenlangenberg singled and went to second on an error, scoring Bohorques, with Broady being thrown out at home. Aaron King singled VanDenlangenberg, moving to second on the throw, and Ben Rhodes singled in King to give the Oilers an early 3-0 lead.
Owensboro added two runs in the second when Tyler Shewmaker led off with a walk, went to second on a Josh Wetzel bunt and scored on an error during Tyler Tichenor's time at bat, scoring Shewmaker. Wetzel scored on another batter's groundout to put the Oilers up 5-0.
The Hoppers (0-1) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second when Hunter Losekamp led off with a triple and scored on a groundout to make the score 5-1.
Hoptown scored again in the fourth inning when Chris Jones reached on a fielder's choice, went to second on a Cody Duncan single and scored on a single by Jimmy Cubillos to further trim the Oilers' lead to 5-2.
Owensboro then pulled starter Ivey Starling for Jacob Watkins to start the fifth inning, and the Hoppers took advantage. Ernie de la Trinidad led off by reaching on an error, and went to third when Kyle Hubbuch reached on an error. Will Olson walked to load the bases and Trent Turner bashed a three-run double to knot the score at 5-5.
The Hoppers had another three-run inning in the seventh, when Olson hit a one-out single and went to second on a wild pitch. Turner walked and both runners stole a base. Losekamp was intentionally walked to load the bases and Jones hit a two-run single, scoring Olson and Turner. Duncan walked, and de la Trinidad hit a lazy-roller infield single to first to score Losekamp to put Hoptown ahead 8-5.
Owensboro took the game in the eighth inning when King reached on an error and Austin Bartle drew a one-out walk. Shewmaker then walked to load the bases and Damon Davis came in to pinch-run for him. Pinch-hitter Connor McHugh reached on a failed fielder's choice, scoring King and Bartle scored when Tichenor grounded out. Bohorques then stepped up and slapped a two-out, two-run single to plate Davis and McHugh, giving the Oilers the 9-8 win.
