The Hoptown Hoppers defeated the Fulton Railroaders, 3-0
(From Hopkinsville) Visiting Fulton was able to get hits early on, but unable to score, leaving 10 runners on base. Homestanding Hoptown wasn't able to get hits, but scored two runs on a two-out error en route to the 3-0 final Friday night.
Hoptown (19-12) was the first to score in the bottom of the third inning when Taylor Blair walked and went to second on a sac bunt by Matthew Alford. Mitchell Gallaher reached on a fielder's choice, moving to second on the play, with Blair scooting to third. Parker Cash then hit a grounder to second base, but the ball was bobbled and the throw went wide, allowing Blair and Gallagher to score to give the Hoppers a 2-0 lead.
Hoptown tacked on another run in the sixth inning when Cash led off with a ground-rule double, went to third on a flyout and scored on a single by Taylor Ellis to close the scoring at 3-0.
Hoptown was led at the plate by Cash, Ellis and Alford with two hits apiece, gathering all of the Hoppers' hits among them. Cash had a double for Hoptown.
Fulton was paced by Greg Fettes and Trevor Hicks, who each had two hits. Fettes, Hicks and Dayton Rausch each doubled for the Railroaders.
Hoppers starter Brady Walsh (3-2) got the win, allowing no runs on six hits, striking out one and walking three in five innings. Walsh got the first two batters out in each of the five innings, but had trouble getting the third out in all but the fifth inning, when he retired the side. Jake McAdams held Fulton at bay, entering in the sixth inning and allowing no runs on two hits, striking out three and walking one in three innings. Trevor Blocker picked up his fifth save of the season, allowing no runs on no hits in the ninth inning.
Railroaders starter Dylan Smith (2-4) deserved a better fate, as only one of his three runs was earned, allowing five hits, striking out four and walking one in seven innings. He threw fewer pitches (86) in seven innings than Hoptown's Walsh did in five (96). Daniel Goff pitched the eighth inning for Fulton, allowing no runs on one hit, striking out one and walking one in one inning.
