The Fulton Railroaders defeated the Dubois County Bombers, 6-5

(From Dubois County)  The Dubois County Bombers and the Fulton Railroaders have been locked in a struggle for third place in the Ohio Valley League for weeks now. The Bombers have had a slight advantage in the standings lately, but the Railroaders pulled even again last night with a hard-fought 6-5 victory in League Stadium.
The game figured to be a pitcher's duel, with each coach selecting one of the league's best hurlers to start the contest.
The Railroaders struck quickly, pushing across a run in the first with a hit batter, a sacrifice bunt, and an RBI single by Greg Fettes.
Dubois County went one better in the bottom of the inning. Nick Gobert singled home Ty Broady and Chase Scott to give the home team a 2-1 lead.
The Bombers added another pair in the third with a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly by Dane Giesler. After three, the Bombers had a 4-1 advantage.
Starting pitcher Lucas Barnett sidestepped several Fulton scoring threats through the first six innings, attempting to collect a league-leading fifth win. Meanwhile, Cole Schaenzer came out of the Railroader bullpen to start the fourth inning. In shutting down the Bombers through the next three innings, Schaenzer provided time for his team to mount a rally.
Barnett ran out of gas in the seventh, allowing four of the five batters he faced to reach base. Fettes drove in one run with a sacrifice fly. Dayton Rausch brought two more home with a double. Conner Hill and Reed Johnson followed with RBI singles. When the dust had cleared, the Railroaders had sent 11 men to the plate, scoring five runs off of three Dubois County pitchers in the seventh inning, storming to a 6-4 lead.
The Bombers cut the margin to one in the home seventh on a Chase Scott RBI double. But that would be the last base hit for the home team on this night. Fernando Gonzalez and Keaton Baker held the door shut through the final two innings.
Schaenzer picks up the win, his first decision of the season. Barnett's record falls to 4-2. Baker earned his first save.
Both teams are now an even .500 for the season, and tied for third place. Dubois County is 16-16. Fulton is 15-15. Each are three games behind second-place Hopkinsville.
