The Fulton Railroaders defeated the Dubois County Bombers, 7-0
In 7 innings. (From Fulton) The Railroaders (12-15) swept and shutout the Bombers (13-15) in a doubleheader on Saturday in Fulton. Fourth place Fulton now trails third place Dubois County by a half game. The teams have just two head-to-head meetings left in regular play with the Bombers leading the current season series 5-3.
In the first game of the twin bill the Railroaders had 11 hits and 7 earned runs to take the victory in 7 innings. Zach Bailey was best for Fulton going 2 for 4 at the plate with 3 RBI. Bailey and Jeremiah Spring both contributed a triple in the effort, and Troy Squires added a double. This trio of sluggers also ran to score 2 runs each. Additional hits were by Tyler Marshall, 2 of 3 for one RBI, and Riley Benner who was 2 for 4 and had 2 RBI.
The Bombers were able to muster 4 hits total in the game. Ty Broady, Dane Giesler, Tirey Burch and Jacob Lightle each had singles.
Fulton starter Justin Vernia wins the game throwing the full 7 innings with no walks and 7 strikeouts. Dubois County starter Tyler Nichols takes the loss for 2 innings pitched and responsible for 7 hits and 3 earned runs before being replaced by Johnathan Williams who finished the remaining 4 innings.
