The Owensboro Oilers defeated the Fulton Railroaders, 2-0
(From Owensboro) The Owensboro Oilers played to their 175th franchise win at home in memorable fashion. The Oilers shutout the visiting Fulton Railroaders on a combined one-hitter-- holding up the 2 to 0 score.
Owensboro scored one run in their portions of the 4th and 5th innings. In bottom of the 4th inning Logan Leverett led off with a single. Christian McHatton followed with a single, and Cody Rogers bunted his way on safely, loading the bases. Austin Edge delivered a RBI sacrifice fly to score Leverett. At the end of the 4 innings, the home team led by that 1-0 score. In the last of the 5th inning Taylor Matthews walked with one out. Hunter Newman followed with a single and Matthews went to third base on a sacrifice fly out. Newman found himself in a rundown between first and second bases, but he extended it long enough for Matthews to score in the meantime. The Oilers led 2-0 and made that lead stand.
Pitching was the story of the game. The Owensboro starter Taylor Grisham went 7.67 innings. He recorded three strikeouts and induced two double plays along the way to the win. Edwin Reyes completed the 8th inning, and Brent Elder worked a perfect 9th inning for a save. Michael Sillyman's single in the 2nd inning -- ahead of a double play -- was Fulton's only safety of the game. Fulton starter Thomas Huddleston went the distance and gave up just the two runs on six hits in taking the loss.
