The Owensboro Oilers defeated the Fulton Railroaders, 12-11
The Oilers handed Fulton their second straight home loss to open the season in a 9 inning 3 hour 50 minute marathon game. For Owensboro, who opened their season on the road, the 1 run win shoved Fulton into the basement and helped healed the wounds from last year's post season championship loss to the Railroaders. The Railroaders out-hit the Oilers by 2, but stranded 12 runners while the Oilers only left 5 aboard. Costly errors by Fulton, 3 total, were another major factor in the loss. The Railroaders took an early 3-0 lead through 3 innings. Top of the 4th, the Oilers' bats came alive producing 6 of their 10 hits resulting in 7 runs scored and aided by the first Railroader error. Fulton answer in the bottom half with 4 runs to tie the game at 7 all. The Railroaders regained the lead punching out 2 runs in the 6th, but the Oilers came back in the 7th with the 5 runs scored from 2 more hits and another Railroader error. Fulton managed 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th to end the scoring for both teams. Each team sent 4 pitchers to the mound forcing both offenses to earn 20 or the 23 total runs scored. Owensboro's 2 unearned runs ensured their win over Fulton. The offensive highlights were a 3 RBI homerun off the bat of Railroader Angelo Burrage, and a base clearing 3 RBI double from Oiler Matt Johnson. Colton Slank is the winning pitcher of record and Jordan Meece picks up a save. Cody Alvey takes the hard loss in middle relieve. The two teams face off again tomorrow in Owensboro.
