The Tradewater Pirates defeated the Owensboro Oilers, 5-4

The visiting Tradewater Pirates defeated the Owensboro Oilers Saturday night at Chautauqua Park. The final score was 5 to 4.  The Pirates scored first with one run in the top of the 2nd inning. Tony Becerra led off with a double. He was sacrifice bunted over to third base, and one more out later, Becerra scored on an RBI single by Tyler McDonald. Tradewater made it 2-0 with another run in the top of the 3rd inning. With one out, Brock Bontrager walked. He moved to second base on a groundout, and scored on an RBI single by Derrek Estell.  The Oilers offense sparked to life with one run in the bottom of the 4th inning. Luis Mila reached on an error to start the home half. He was sacrifice bunted over to second base, and took third base on a wild pitch. An RBI groundout by Bo Younker brought Mila across the plate. The score closed to 2-1.  The Pirates pushed back with two more runs in the top of the 5th inning. Eric Herman reached on an error to start Tradewater. Bontrager was hit by a pitch. The effect of a second error in the inning resulted in Herman at third base and Bontrager on second base. The timely opposition hitting that plagued Owensboro through the game continued as Becerra delivered a 2-RBI single to drive in both Herman and Bontrager. The Pirates led 4 to 1.  Owensboro got a run in the bottom of the 7th inning from a solo RBI home run by Bo Younker. The game stayed within reach at 4-2.

Tradewater secured one additional tally in the top of the 8th inning. Becerra led off with a single. In the course of the inning he stole both second and third bases with less than two outs. Chris Mitko produced the manufactured run wit an RBI sacrifice fly. The tradewater lead was 5 to 2.  The Oilers responded with two runs in the bottom of the 8th inning. With one out, Austin Hargrove singled. A wild pitch sent him to second base, and the error that put Ryan Stephens on safely moved Hargrove to third base -- then Stephens stole second base. Mila followed with a 2-RBI single, taking second on the errant handling of his hit. Just like that the score was only 5-4 in Tradewater's favor. A scoreless top of the 9th brought the whole game down to the last Owensboro turn at bat. The Oilers loaded the bases with one out, but Tradewater closer George Kalousek got back-back strike outs to end the game with the 5 to 4 score intact, and in their favor.  Tradewater starter Logan Thomas picked up the win. Owensboro starter Brad Pressley had the loss.
