The Tradewater Pirates defeated the Owensboro Oilers, 7-2
Logan Thomas was so dominating in Friday night's Pirate 7-2 win over Owensboro, the determined righty was inches away from a shutout, until Bo Younker spoiled it in the 9th with a two-RBI single. But the Bucs rode the strong pitching by Thomas, timely hitting and good defense, to even their record at 8-8. The Thomas performance was eerily similar to his outing at Owensboro, not long ago, before the Pirates fell apart late, in a disappointing loss. But not tonight, as Logan and Company broke the game open with runs in the 5th, 6th and 7th, to forge a 7-0 cushion. Thomas held his overall pitch count below 95, giving up just three hits on the night. The tough loss goes to Derek Cape who went 5 innings allowing only 1 earned run, 4 hits, 2 walks and striking out 7 batters. Tradewater's Tyler McDonald played award-winning "D" at third, and the Pirates put pressure on the Oilers all night, in a classic Tradewater Pirate victory. Oilers' miscues helped the Pirates win the game with 3 runs scored in a no hit 6th inning and 3 of their total 4 errors . The Bucs play Marion tomorrow night at Riverside, in a battle between first and second place teams, and the Oilers head to Fulton to tackle the Railroaders.
