The Marion Bobcats defeated the Owensboro Oilers, 5-4

The visiting Marion Bobcat defeated the Owensboro Oilers on Thursday night, coming from behind to take the game into extra innings, and then simply take the game by the final score of 5 to 4 in 12 innings.

The Oilers scored first with two runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Luis Mila singled to lead off the inning, and he stole second base. Two outs later, Mila had been moved along to third base. He scored on a passed ball. Ryan Messex singled, and Austin Hargrove followed by reaching on an error that allowed Messex to come around and score the frame's second run. Owensboro increased its lead to 3-0 with another run in the bottom of the 3rd inning. With one out, Ty Stetson reached on an error, and stole second base. Stetson scored as Bo Younker drove him in with an RBI double.

The Bobcats got back in the game with two runs in the top of the 5th inning. With one out, Tyler Bailey was hit by a pitch. AJ Dokey followed with a single. Wild pitches brought Bailey across the plate and positioned Dokey at on third base. He scored on a RBI sacrifice fly off the bat of Caleb Eickhoff. However, Owensboro got one of those runs back in the bottom of the 5th when Ty Stetson hit a solo RBI home run over the right field wall -- with two out.

Yet, the middle inning scoring flurry did not end soon enough, as Marion posted two more runs in the top of the 6th inning. With one out, Desmond Roberts singled. Landon Weitekamp walked. Both runners advanced a base on a wild pitch. Then, Joey Xavier RBI singled to bring in Roberts and Cameron Chestnut did the same to drive in Weitekamp. The Oilers got a strikeout and fly out to get to their half of the 6th tied with the Bobcats 4 to 4.

And so it remained .... into extra innings. Each team looked for the one run they seemed to know it would take -- but each team seemed to get the pitch or the play they needed to keep the other from scoring. The tie held until the 12th inning ... the top of the 12th inning when the Bobcats found that elusive one run. Cody Kottich led off the Bobcat inning with a solo RBI home run for the 5 to 4 lead. Owensboro retired the next three batters, but couldn't spark the offense in the bottom of the inning -- making the 5 to 4 score final. Bobcat setup pitcher Tripp Jolly got the win and Matthew Vollenweider picked up their save. The tough  Owensboro loss went to reliever Jim Mulvaney.
